Dramatic Soprano, April Evans has performed in major opera and concert halls of Europe and America and joined the Metropolitan Opera in 1995. Maestro Georg Solti wrote of her, "I have listened to April Evans sing and I believe her to be a singer of very considerable musicianship.” Ms. Evans has performed major roles of the Italian repertoire including Tosca, Turandot, La Boheme, Macbeth, Aida, Ballo in Maschera, and Suzel in L’Amico Fritz, as well as major roles of the German repertoire in opera houses around the world. She garnered critical acclaim for her performance of Irene in Eve Queler’s Opera Orchestra of New York’s performance of Wagner’s “Rienzi” at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall and Washington’s Kennedy Center. Di Fedele of II Prgresso wrote of her performance, “April Evans dispatched the extravagant role of Irene with surprising bravura.”
Opera News singled out her interpretation of Tosca for both its “theatricality and poignancy. Vissi d’arte became a turning point rather than just a definition of her character, at the same time praising her “splendid voice.” Ms. Evans’ appearance as Susanna in the Opera Orchestra of New York’s production of Khovanschina in Carnegie Hall was described by Peter Davis of the New York Times as “outstanding,” and “brilliant” by Byron Belt of Newhouse Newspapers. Paul Somers of the Star Ledger wrote of Ms. Evans’ performance of Aida, “One must recognize the excellence of April Evans' Aida. She handled the two voices of her role with aplomb. The low passages were dark, moody and forceful, yet she floated the high pianissimo in "O Patria mia." Her extensive appearances in symphonic and oratorio include appearances in Carnegie Hall of the Verdi Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Handel’s Israel In Egypt, Mozart Mass In C Minor and the Mozart Requiem. Ms. Evans’ upcoming performances include Ballo in Maschera and concerts in New York and Europe.
